<p class="discreet">In
November 2009 the Global Union Research Network (GURN) launched a call for
papers for the workshop "Climate Change Impact on employment and the
Labour Market - Responses to the Challenges" to be held 25-26 March 2010
in Brussels.</p>
<p class="discreet">The
call for papers included four different issues:</p>
<ul><li>
<p class="discreet">Social Consequences of Climate Change
Adaptation and Mitigation Measures</p>
</li><li>
<p class="discreet">“Just Transition” Towards a Low Carbon
Economy</p>
</li><li>
<p class="discreet">Investment in Decent Green Jobs</p>
</li><li>
<p class="discreet">Change in Production Patterns</p>
</li></ul>
<p class="discreet">Authors
were invited to submit proposals for one of the issues. Among almost 40
proposals, ten papers were selected and presented at the workshop.</p>
<p class="discreet">More to come.</p>

<p>A GURN workshop was held on 4 October in Lisbon immediately following the joint ILO, EC and Government of Portugal World Conference “Social Protection and Inclusion: converging efforts from a global perspective”. The main theme of the GURN workshop was on pension systems, their reforms and the role of unions in shaping public debate.</p>

The Workshop on <em>the Impact of Global Production Systems on Trade Union Strategies </em>was organized from 10 - 11 May 2006 together with <a title="external-link" href="http://www.iss.nl/">the Institute for Social Studies (ISS)</a> in the Hague. The conference was kindly supported by the ILO's Bureau for Workers' Activities and FNV Mondiaal.</p>

<p align="left" class="discreet">The second GURN workshop took place from 23-25 January 2005 in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil and focused on <em>trade union responses to globalisation and development</em>. The workshop took place immediately before the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre which enabled the workshop participants to present their papers also at the World Social Forum.</p>

<p align="left" class="discreet">The Workshop on <em>the Foundation of the Global Union Research Network (GURN)</em> took place at the International Training Centre at the ILO in Turin from 26-28 January 2004. The organization and implementation of the Workshop was a collaborative effort between the ICFTU, TUAC, ACTRAV Geneva, ACTRAV Turin and the International Institute for Labour Studies at the ILO in response to the request from the International Labour movement to develop a global research network.</p>
