Research and Trends in Labour Migration (intro text)

While the pace of labour migration has remained stable, a number of new trends are apparent and have an impact on how to address the issue: more and more migrant workers are women; an increasing number of migrant workers are recruited through private employment agencies; the number of irregular migrants is increasing; trafficking is also on the rise. Developed countries also promote temporary migration and migration by highly-qualified people leading to the phenomenon of “brain drain”. Keeping track of trends and making full use of research is key in dealing with migration.
